Eye-tracker comparison

  • Updated on 13th May 2025

The SR Research EyeLink 1000+ eye-tracker has become the gold standard for research on eye movements. Recently, a new eye-tracker, VPixx Technologies TRACKPixx3, has made its debut in the market. This binocular eye-tracker is desktop-mounted and records at up to 2 kHz, similarly to EyeLink. While the strengths and weaknesses of EyeLink are well-understood, there is no comprehensive evaluation of the TRACKPixx3.

Experimental setup for eye-tracker comparison

We assessed these eye-trackers through the concurrent recording of eye movements across six distinct tasks (grid viewing, free viewing, smooth pursuit, microsaccades, blink detection, pupil dilation) from Ehinger et al. (2019). They were designed to evaluate aspects such as the decay of accuracy, fixation durations, pupil dilation, smooth pursuit movement, microsaccade classification, blink classification. Additionally, we included a new text reading task.

This project is in cooperation with Benedikt Ehinger and Titus von der Malsburg.
